I have so much catching up to do! This time of year is always so busy. I have so many fall and Halloween projects started and many more still stuck in the old brain.
<---This past WEDNESDAY was wear purple for Alzheimer Disease Day. I wore purple to honor my Grandmother that is no longer with us. I am grateful that my husband's father, my parents, Aunts, Uncles are healthy and unaffected by this terrible disease.
Another Busy Day outside...........We planted two Tuscarora Crepe Myrtle Trees on the side of the house. This isn't my photo------------> But one day they will be as beautiful as this one is. We forgot what hard work it was to dig, dig and dig for hours. Two pots wide and one pot deep sounds easy until you start digging. They are all tucked in for the night with tons of water and a blanket of mulch on top. My PT exercises are done for the night and I am getting ready for the season premiere of Fringe at 8pm.

Texas Tough Tomatoes
I planted this "Husky Cherry Red" tomato plant in the early spring. I planted it deep and used extra large sized containers. The plant is covered in tiny tomatoes. We pick a large handful every day from only one plant. My sweet 100's that I have planted in other states...are just not tough enough for Texas...but, the Husky cherry red are!

Growing leeks
After a trip to our local grocery store where I purchased leeks to cook with lunch. I cleaned, sliced and put some in the fridge for the next meal. My husband said "I'll bet if I plant the ends, they will grow"....The leeks did not even have very many tiny roots on the bottom...So, I really did not think they had a chance.Well, negative thinking Nellie was wrong! They are growing. The deeper that you plant leeks, the more white will grow. I cut off the tops (like with green onions and right before winter I pull up the bulb. The small leaves are very tender when they are small. I use leaks in soup or anything that you use onions for. They are milder in flavor
than most onions. My plants have managed to stay alive despite very little rain and hot weather (TX). It is not July or August yet! I raise plants in large planters with lots of soil on my deck. Tomatoes, green onions, herbs and these crazy beans (asparagus beans) that seem like they grow at least 4 inches a day.
